Run # 217 - The Cold Minnesota Run.

15 minutes around a few blocks in Uptown Minneapolis. I ran around the same place in the summer, but further.

Run # 216 - The Sleeping Moon Off Day Run

I am flying to Minnesota tonight, so I wanted to get this one done in Arizona during the early morning hours.

And by early morning, I mean around 1 AM.

This was just over a mile at 1:15 AM.

Run #215 - The Return of Music Run

I was really looking forward to this because I had my I Pod again.

Some say they love running without music and I just can't relate.

I have pretty much stopped timing my runs, I just know the distance is always over one mile (usually 1-2 miles per day as of late) so the streak continues.

It's been 24 days since the marathon and they say you don't fully recover until day 26 or 27 but I'm feeling just fine now.

Run # 214 - The Drunk Girl Yelling Run

On the road for the 214th day in a row, I ran with no music (a rarity).

I also ran in long pants (another rarity) and dress socks (something I've never done).

Those oddities didn't match up with what I experienced at the end of this near-2 mile run.

A car was making a left turn as I approached an intersection. It's not often, but from time to time I will go toe-to-toe with a moving vehicle.

My friend Chuck has told me in the past that I pretty much freak out when I cross intersections (I usually stop completely) but this time I just ran right into it.

The car didn't come close to hitting me, but a girl who was riding in it yelled out "We just saw your life flash right before your eyes...." or something to that drunk effect.

I guess I was annoyed but I appreciated the experience so I could write about it. And I will guarantee to wear my headphones next time, because I've never had fun listening to a drunk girl yelling I've been while running.

Run # 213 - The Fully Clothed Nello's Run

I ate dinner around 9:30 pm at Nello's, a fantastic pizzeria/restaurant/pizza joint just over a mile from my house.

I also drank two beers and noticed it was about 10:15 pm when I was getting ready to leave.

I devised a simple plan.

Rather than driving home, changing into running clothes, and then heading back outside around 11 pm or so, I'd just run home from the restaurant - fully clothed.

So in a long sleeved shirt, jeans, and shoddy running shoes, I took off from Nello's parking lot and ran straight home.

It was surprising to me that I ran at about the same pace I usually run at, even though my shoes came untied right away.

I credit the alcohol for not making me think too much to slow me down.

Even though this post might be my most entertaining so far, I'm still in awe over what this running streak freak is doing.

If I'm ever living and running in South Beach, I hope I too am a wooly mammoth with friends.

Run # 212 - The Monday Night Thank God The Vikings Won Run

Monday Night Football delayed my run as the Vikings played JV High School style football against the Chicago Bears.

I had severe anxiety they would blow it, but somehow, some way, they didn't.

So my initial thoughts were I'd be running angry for 1.74 miles but I was actually able to run with some joy as the Vikings won 20-13.

This run took me 13 minutes. I haven't mapped it yet, but I feel like I ran much faster than usual. Perhaps the 12 sugar cookies I ate right before it helped me.

Run # 211 - The Off Day Toniko Run

Another simple 1.46 to keep the streak going.

This was a day when I had no desire to run, but felt great after finishing.

Run # 210 - The Hoh Run

The weather was great during the day and I should have run in the afternoon.

Instead, I did what I typically do. I waited until about 10 pm, ran for about 18 minutes up to Hoh and back and put run # 210 in the books.

Run #211 Sunday night. I've decided it will be an off day.

Run # 209 - The 15 Minute How Far Can I Go Run

I had fifteen minutes to get this done.

I needed at least a mile.

I ended up with TBA.

Run # 208 - The A Bit Longer New North Phoenix Run

Approximately 1.74 miles in 15 minutes.

It was cold outside but I enjoyed it.

In one week, I will be back in Minnesota where today's temperature is 12 degrees.

So was it really cold outside?

Run # 207 - The New North Phoenix "Off Day" Run

I found a 1.13 mile trail in North Phoenix that I enjoy and so that's the run I took for # 206.

It's getting colder and harder to breathe.

Tonight I wore a snow hat and it reminded me of the 2007 PF Chang's Marathon.

Why do I run?

In 2008, I want to run earlier in the day and for longer periods of time.

I hate the morning.

Run # 206 - The Repeating the First Run Run

Starting at 11:18 pm, I decided to run the first running route of the streak.

I finished up in just about 23 minutes, besting the time I originally did by about a minute or so.

The streak seems to annoy me at times, but I realize when it does that its actually the blogging about it.

I posted a while back about how I was going to make this blog more appealing, but the thought of exerting effort to do that also annoys me.

Tuesday, December 11, 2007

Run # 205 - A Typical Toniko Run

A long day of work, colder, rainier weather, and a simple lack of motivation and all I could muster was 1.46 miles.

I ran with no music though, which was a rarity. It enabled me to stop breathing like a hyena. I was successful at times, and completely unsuccessful at others.

Run # 204 - The Fiesta Bowl 5K attempt run

Woke up at the crack of dawn to head to Scottsdale for the Fiesta Bowl 5K.

I was tired and lethargic and I only ran 2 miles of it until my running partner (who has asked to remain anonymous) decided it was in their best interest to stop.

It didn't matter to me, I enjoyed walking a mile and then running the final .1.

One week has now passed since the marathon, so I better start running more this week.

That's wishful thinking though with another marathon right around the corner on January 13th.

Run # 203 - The 5K practice run

Keisha and I decided to run just over a mile to prepare for the 7:30 AM 5K the next day.

Friday, December 7, 2007

Run # 202 - A Rare Rainy Run

A short 12 minute run in the rain. I should have run longer but the week after a marathon entitles me to be lazy.

Run # 201 - 200 re-visited

A replica of Run # 200, just faster and I am noticing I have some type of ankle injury.

Wednesday, December 5, 2007

Run # 200 - The 1.5 mile Run for 200

I wanted to get 2 miles in but I just followed a gal I call Keisha around the block of an unfamiliar territory.

It was at about a 12 minute pace and I really enjoyed it.

My limbs have returned to normal (almost).

Tuesday, December 4, 2007

Run # 199 - The Day Two Marathon Recovery Run

I decided I would take the day off, so I ran 1.14 miles and called it a night.

Hopefully I will be able to do something interesting for run # 200.

Monday, December 3, 2007

Run # 198 - The Most Difficult Run of the Streak (so far)

A simple 1.46 that was utterly painful.

Run # 197 - The Tucson Marathon Run

The longest run of the streak (obviously) and I set a personal best marathon time of 4 hours and 14 minutes.

I was upset with it as I thought I could go faster but I didn't want to jeopardize my ability to run, let alone walk, the following day in order to continue the streak.

Run # 196 - The Saturday Morning Toniko Run

Run # 195 - The Friday Rain Soaked Toniko Run

Run # 194 - The Thursday Toniko Run

Run # 193 - The Wednesday Toniko Run

Monday, November 26, 2007

Run # 191 - The Toniko Run of A Week of Toniko Runs?

The Tucson Marathon is on Sunday, so I might spend the remainder of this week just taking it really easy..running just under 1.5 miles each day. Again, something most people say is "just too easy."

Friday, November 23, 2007

Run # 188 - The 4 mile 34 minute Run

A 65 degree night gave me the opportunity to see how fast I could run in the "cold weather" of AZ.

I was quite happy with my time, it was a record for me for this route. One week from Sunday I just need to add another 22.2 to it.

Run # 178 - The Tuesday Toniko Run

Testing the knee tonight, I hoped this one would be easier since I haven't run for 36 hours.

Nearing the Halfway Point

I'm almost halfway home. November 20th I will turn 27.5 and will be .5 years away from my goal of at least a one year running streak.

The blog has gotten emptier and emptier, but the streak lives on, and that's all I can focus on at this point. To those people who've commented on the blog with statements like "come on man, update it, your blog sucks," - I implore you to do one thing: and that is just try to update a blog EVERYDAY. Let alone run everyday and then blog about it in depth.

I also get a kick out of people who say things like "you only run 1 mile a day? Oh I could do that, but who cares?"

I'm anxious to see everyone do it. The purpose of this blog is two fold: For me to record every run for the USRA (www.runeveryday.com) and to entertain those who read it from time to time. My pledge is to now make it more entertaining.

However, I have also inspired at least one other person to start a streak because of this. Sadly, his streak ended around # 60 or so due to a minor surgery and doctor's orders to stay off his feet to avoid popping a stitch.

I will probably add some things to it, and once I hit the year point I won't update it to reflect every run.

I am currently experiencing a lot of pain in my left leg/knee area when I run and I'm hoping it just goes away. If it doesn't, I may have to forego bigger events until I can "rest" - only a mile jog each day until it's 100%, but right now I'm fully intent on marathons on Dec. 2nd, January 13th, and then a relay at the end of February.

I'm also considering altering the look of this blog and adding some interesting things to it, like maps and stories of the runs. Or even pictures of me nearly getting hit by cars, flicked off by members of the white trash community, and having various things thrown at me. I once did get hit by a thrown cigarette butt.

Thanks for checking in, and when I revise the blog I will e-mail all four of you.

Run # 177 - A Morning Hoh Run

Sunday, November 4, 2007

Run # 169 - The Record Negative Split Run

Definitely have to post a map and little recap of this one tomorrow when I'm supposed to be working.

I used some intense music to run out in 50 minutes and back in 39 or so from what I can recall. It was 6:50 when I left, 7:40 when I turned around, and 8:19 or so when I was done.

The Big Blog Update

Well, I have learned very quickly that keeping this blog updated is actually more difficult than running everyday.

So while I won't go back in time and post every map of every run, I am going to show you the screenshots of how every one is listed at bimactive.com. I'll start with the past 30 runs, and just keep adding until I get back to May 20th when this started.

Run # 170 on Monday, and I'm almost halfway home to the 1 year point of the streak. What I do then - stop or continue - is still up for debate.

Run # 168 - The South Mountain Run and Hike

Run # 167 - The Sleeping Moon Sprint Run

Tuesday, October 30, 2007

Run # 164 - The Second Re-Run with a Focus on Time

I ran the same route as Sunday and Monday, only this time I really tried to get closer to 20 minutes. I've been coming in at 22 minutes and that just seems way too slow for me.

Run # 163 - The Re-Run

I recovered tonight and ran the same run as last night. This time I did very well as I spent a lot of today making sure I didn't have a relapse or re-injure it.

More and the map to come.

Yes, my blog is boring and will be updated as soon as I can.

Run # 164 tomorrw.

Monday, October 29, 2007

Run # 162 - Stopped at 16 minutes (but I got the mile in)

This one was tough as I came up limping after the 16th minute. The pain was unbearable until I got home and was able to rest my body.

I started slow and was preparing for a surge at the end of this one but I just didn't have it tonight.

Map and more to come..

Saturday, October 27, 2007

Run # 161 - The I Predict ASU Wins Run

Just over an hour before kickoff, I ran 1.14 miles, the whole while thinking that ASU will defeat Cal to improve to 8 - 0.

Run # 160 - The Housewarming Party run

12 minutes of glory until it was off to what I believe was the first housewarming party I have ever been invited to.

Thursday, October 25, 2007

Run # 159 - The Vestibule Run

Moments before this run began, I received a call from my friends Erich and Derek. They had just arrived in Boston, MA, just hours after the Red Sox won Game 2 of the World Series.

I'm entitling this the vestibule run because that is where Erich and Derek planned on sleeping for the night unless they found a hotel.

So I called a few hotels (every one was booked) and then I realized I had to get on the road to get this run in. I left my friends to continue the streak. Therefore, I am somewhat of a dedicated asshole.

To Erich and Derek, this one is for you and the time you suffered in the vestibule.

When I finished this one, I called to discover they had made it inside the apartment/house/wherever they were staying that had the vestibule as a holding cell for them for what I imagine seemed like days.

Run # 160 tomorrow.

Run # 158 - Wakial

Just over 2 miles on a nice cool night. I didn't start until 11:50 pm though so I'm up pretty late.

It was a good run though and I felt really great afterwards.

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

Run # 157 - The Across Elliot Run

Another favorite run of mine. My goal tonight was actually 19 minutes and I had no plan to achieve it. Therefore, I didn't.

Run # 156 - Another Sleeping Moon Run

Before going to a concert, I made a point to really try to run hard during this one. I also made a point to prove that when I attempt to make a point I generally fail.

So this was nothing special but just another step towards reaching my goal of a one year streak and being able to do something I do even worse than running: drinking.

Run # 157 tonight. I'm almost halfway now and that means another sheet cake from John is right around the corner.

Blog/Streak Update

Loyal readers (all 4 of you) -

I have some really terrible news. The streak is officially over.

Last night while running, I attempted to sprint a great distance (for me, thats about .25 miles) and in doing so took a nose dive on the sidewalk. Before I hit the pavement, my right ankle hit a yellow fire hydrant and it's now severely swollen. I could try to limp a mile during the healing process, but I just think its better to stop now and try to recover for my December 2nd marathon, the marathon in January, and the relay in February.

Just kidding.....I am really sorry my blog sucks right now and I have little updates other than headlines. I know everyone is crushed by this.

The good news is I have no social life and have given up drinking until the streak is over so I might find some time to sit down and - in sober fashion - update the blog. This will happen before I die. I pledge to make it happen.

The great news is the streak is really alive and well. See the map below of my favorite run so far of the streak - an hour run in the dark early morning of El Cerrito, CA overlooking the SF/Oakland Bay area and Golden Gate bridge. The hills were awesome, it was 55 degrees, and I was in heaven. I ran really, really slow too. Going up a total of 830 feet and down a total of 830 feet.

Run # 149 - The worst run yet

Today I was dehydrated, depressed, confused, and lacked complete motivation. But thats for another blog - one I might create and call cahasissues.blogspot.com. Keep an eye out for that.

Either way, this run was short, slow, and I could never get into it. The only thing that kept me going was the fact I knew it would be over in 11 minutes.

Run # 148 - The Race For The Cure Run

Map and blog to come after the race is complete and after I spend the rest of the day watching football.

Run # 147 - The 5K Prep Run

My first 5K race tomorrow and I want to see how fast I could run 3.1 miles today to prepare.

Friday, October 12, 2007

Run # 146 - Sleeping Moon

Friday night and I have no life so I sat at home until I mustered up the energy to run 1.14 miles.

It took me just over 10 minutes and this week has essentially been an off week.

I have the Race for the Cure on Sunday and it's a 5K.

So at 3.1 miles that will be the longest run I'll have done since last Saturday.

Run # 145 - Another post work run

I left work early and ran around downtown Phoenix.

Just over 11 minutes and I ran about 1.28 miles.

Then I watched the Diamondbacks lose the first game of the NLCS.

Run # 144 - The Happy Hour Mile Run

Wednesday night and I did this after a couple of alcoholic beverages.

Therefore, my ambition was to run no further than 1 mile. So I ran 1.14 miles in a run to a street called Sleeping Moon.

If nothing else, the streak is helping me learn all of the street names around my house.

Tuesday, October 9, 2007

Run # 143 - The Hill Run

Twenty minutes tonight I spent running around the neighborhood. I decided to go in a direction I rarely take and then I ended up running on the familiar hills. Up once and down and then back again. I felt good at the end (I did drink almost a gallon of water today to see if that would help me) but I didn't eat much food.

Run # 144 tomorrow will be after a Happy Hour at Drift. I have a feeling that will be an interesting run. I'm also supposed to go to Lifetime. I wish I could force myself to go but I've been lacking motivation.

Run # 142 - A Rare Morning Run

I think I hit the snooze button 79 times before I got up and ran for about 16 minutes.

Not sure of the distance but I'll post the map soon.

It felt good to come home from work and realize no running was necessary.

I've run for 142 consecutive days. I don't think I've ever done anything remotely interesting for a consecutive time period like that, except for cry myself to sleep at night.

Run # 141 - The Wakial Recovery Run

Sunday night.

2.18 miles.

I'll post a map of a familiar run. A day after running 18+ I thought I'd be in more pain. My legs actually felt good, almost like they needed to be stretched out.

I listened to a Pearl Jam song called Rearview Mirror during this one and it made me run faster.

I am still slow, however.

Run # 140 - The New Longest Run of the Streak

Map and blog to come

Friday, October 5, 2007

Run # 139 - The Short Toniko Run Prelude to The New Longest Run of the Streak Run

Same run as last night and I have no idea the time I did it in.

I'm quite concerned illness is on it's way. My health is crashing and I felt terrible right at the start of this one.

Here was the playlist

1. Dizzy - Jimmy Eat World

2. Sympathy - Goo Goo Dolls

3. Boston - Augustana

4. Get Up - Quietdrive

Thursday, October 4, 2007

Run # 138 - The Really Slow Toniko Run

Just another 1.5 miles on a night when I felt terrible. I think I'm getting sick. I have a cough and my fingers hurt.

Wednesday, October 3, 2007

Run # 137 - Another Downtowner

It's D-Backs-Cubs game 1 tonight and I scored a nosebleed seat. This means more beer, some hot dogs, and a run downtown.

Above is the map.

Run # 138 tomorrow and I'm gonna try to go for at least another four miles, which would allow me at least another 3 beers.

I have 19 miles scheduled for Saturday, which could result in a cheeseburglar bender and the sky is the limit on how many of those I could consume.

Run # 136 - A Solid Four Miles

Using a lot of water, a cheeseburglar from McDonald's as well as a snack wrap, plus a medium Coke, I stepped outside in my new shoes and got after it.

I performed well with just under 8 and a half minute miles.

I felt so good I drank a beer afterwards. Then 2 more.

It appears I need to look at my diet and see if its healthy enough.

I feel like I'm on the right track though because both the cheeseburglar and the beer tasted really good.

Run # 135 - The New Shoe Toniko Run

My new shoes have arrived and when I picked up the box outside of my front door I felt a level of excitement I haven't experienced since I went through the drive thru of McDonald's on Saturday morning.
I never in my life would have imagined being this happy about shoes, but I am. I took them on what has become my 2nd favorite and most frequented run, the Toniko run. Its getting cooler at night but I'm just not focusing on time for the next week or so. The time posted above is most likely pretty off...I just guessed and didn't take a watch. Once I break the shoes in and have time to eat things other than TV dinners, fast food, and toothpaste, I'm sure I'll concentrate more on running longer and faster...oh and on running hills too.
Note: "I'm sure" = roughly 5.6% sure

Run # 134 - The Last Old Shoe Run

I ordered a pair of new shoes from brooksrunning.com. They are the Brooks Trance 7 and I expected them on Monday night.

So on Sunday night I did the neat little run above in about 15 minutes. I say about because I've decided so spend a little less effort (essentially meaning barely any effort) keeping track of time. I'm basically running 1-3 miles per day with a long run on Saturdays.

With two months from tomorrow until the Tucson marathon, I plan on slowly incorporating a few longer runs during the week. I plan on that, but whether or not that happens is another story.

I just want to keep the streak alive and do better than my marathon time of 4:19 in January.

Run # 133 - 2 Hours Through the Neighborhood and Hills

The first hour of this one was quite familiar. It started in South Mountain park and we ran down a hill to 48th St. I ran part of the 'Across Elliot' run on this leg, and then the Hoh run. After that, we turned around at Warner and ran down 51st to do half of the Toniko Run. Once we got back to South Mountain, there were some grueling hills to me, especially considering I rarely do hills. Hills are good though, but when I almost fell off of one to my death after tripping, I stopped and turned around. Overall, it was a two hour run that felt great, but we'll see how my legs feel tomorrow after all the foreign terrain I covered.

Run # 129 - The Hoh Record Run that Wasn't

My goal for run # 129 on Tuesday night was to run the Hoh run in the fastest time ever. I set the record on July 4th and tonight I felt great.

Then I went out and posted a 20 minute run. Unacceptable. I tried sprinting and I felt like I was running in slow motion.

But there is always tomorrow and # 130. No idea what I'll end up doing but the schedule calls for 9 miles. I don't think I have the energy for that today. I already flipped a coin - heads to run to the gym, tails to skip the gym. It was tails.

Run # 128 - The Mute Girl Run

Tonight's run was nothing spectacular and I always try to make these posts somewhat interesting regardless of the fact that I continue to just briefly describe each run.

However it always helps when some unusual event occurs when I'm out there. In the past I've encountered angry cops, suffered internal injuries, lapped the elderly, and have seen people who resemble serial killers. Another time, long ago before the streak began, someone slowed down to yell "yeah run you little bitch" at me. Not too long before that, someone threw a cigarette butt at me and there have been countless times that people have honked their car horns loudly in successful attempts to see me jump in place.

Tonight was just another odd encounter. I was running along 48th St. when a car slowed down and stopped just ahead of me to my left. I saw the window being rolled down so I prepared myself for something to be yelled at or thrown at me. The car appeared to be quite ghetto so, using the process of stereotyping, I also concluded I could be shot at. I sped up and prepared for the worst, looked to my left when I met the car, and saw the driver was the only one in it.

While she was probably actually talking, I'd like to live the rest of my life believing she was a mute, and was attempting to yell something at me with all of her might, failing for two main reasons:

1. The fact that she was a mute

and/or

2. The fact that I had headphones on and turned up full blast, rendering her words worthless to me.

Hence, the title of this run.

Run # 129 tomorrow.

Run # 127 - The New Shortest Run of the Streak

1.15 miles on a cooler Sunday night. I ran in a baseball hat and long pants. My shoe came untied but I didn't bother to stop to tie it.

The beauty of the streak is that all I have to do is a mile per day but yet I can do 17 - 20 miles on other days if I mentally prepare myself to suffer.

Finally, I've been added to the active list at runeveryday.com - I'm # 185

Saturday, September 22, 2007

Run # 126 - The New Longest Run of the Streak

A 17 mile journey through Tempe and into Phoenix and although I felt great after the run, I had to get 2nd, 3rd, and 4th winds to make it through.

I haven't run that far since January and it was arduous. I made a rare stop along the way to refill my water bottle.

As I write this, my feet are in a lot of pain and I am on the verge of tears. I don't feel like moving but I am forcing myself to get up and go drink alcohol tonight to reward myself for all of my hard work.

Maybe that will ease my pain.

Run # 125 - The Second Downtown Run

One of my earliest runs during the streak was one right outside of where I work after I got done working. It was May then and I ran at 5:30 pm or so. It was brutal.

Tonight I did it again only this time the heat wasn't a factor. It was actually kind of cool, right around 95 degrees or so. I passed a few homeless people, ran through some construction zones, but didn't have a near death experience like last time where I was inches away from being destroyed by a bus.

Run # 124 - A Rare Morning Short Run

I took my time with this one, running only 1.46 miles in 12:54.

It felt good but then I realized I'd spend the rest of the day working.

That's when I started to feel bad.

Wednesday, September 19, 2007

Run # 123 - The Non 8 mile run

Tonight I had big glorious plans to run 8 miles. The first weekday 8 mile run in months. But my lazy ass got the best of me and I only managed 2.7. It was the same run I did when I started the streak. I call it the classic run on bimactive.com. I tried to sprint portions of this one and it appears that, as a result, I ran faster. That felt pretty good. I told my physical therapist that my right foot hurts and it doesn't seem to be getting better. His advice was to "stop fucking running."

Run # 122 - The Smashing Pumpkins run

Titled only as such because I went to a Smashing Pumpkins show after it (it was subpar), this run was surprisingly cool as temperatures in Phoenix got down to the 70's for the first time since June 8th.

I only ran 1.66 miles but I proudly included a hill in the run and it felt like nothing after the 12 miles I ran on Saturday. Its still hard to think I'll add 2.5 hours and 15.5 miles to this coming Saturday's run, but it just goes to show you the mental preparation running takes.

That, and in my case, a lot of mental disability.

Tuesday, September 18, 2007

Run # 121 - A Wakial Run

This 2.18 mile run brought be to 3.8 for the week. With 17 planned for Saturday, this could my most miles in one week so far during the streak.

Sunday, September 16, 2007

Run # 120 - Slow

I ran slow on the night of a day that was nauseating at best. The weekend in general made me think about a lot of things, ranging from where I want to live to if I want to live. But the weekend is over now, and I get to start this next day with the ultimate aphrodisiac: a day at work. The relief has now washed over me in an awesome wave.

The playlist:

1. Be Sensible - Jimmy Eat World

2. Cowboys - Counting Crows

3. Chase This Light - Jimmy Eat World

4. End of Our Days - Howie Day

Run # 119 - The Weekend Long Run

Ran for 1 hour and 58 minutes today.

The map will be posted but its going to be tough to figure out the route I took.

I ran with a few other people who are "Ironmen" - I firmly believe one didn't take a breath during the entire run. He's done a 135 mile run before in the past so today was more like a stretching exercise for him.

I didn't feel as well as I thought I would for this run, especially during the outset but I could definitely tell my legs benefited from the rest I gave them this week.

Run # 118 - RR # 6

So six days in a row of the same recovery run of 1.46 miles.

Definitely an off week for me.

I have to get up in about 5 hours for a 2 hour run so we'll see how the rest on my legs pays off. Tomorrow's run should be about 13 miles or so I hope.

Here's the final breakout. I started out slow, got faster, and then finished slower to end the week:

Sunday - 1.46 miles in 12 minutes and 51 seconds

Monday - 1.46 miles in 11 minutes and 23 seconds

Tuesday - 1.46 miles in 11 minutes and 4 seconds

Wednesday - 1.46 miles in 10 minutes and 6 seconds.

Thursday - 1.46 miles in 12 minutes and 4 seconds

Friday - 1.46 miles in 12 minutes and 17 seconds

Thursday, September 13, 2007

Run # 117 - RR # 5

Ran the same 1.46 tonight. I didn't have as much energy as the past few nights so I ran closer to my time on Sunday.

Run # 116 - Recovery Run # 4

This week I've done the same run on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and now Wednesday. As I've gone along, I've tried to do more short sprints in each with an ultimate goal of sprinting the entire way someday to my death.

Here are the distances and times for each day:

Sunday - 1.46 miles in 12 minutes and 51 seconds

Monday - 1.46 miles in 11 minutes and 23 seconds

Tuesday - 1.46 miles in 11 minutes and 4 seconds

Wednesday - 1.46 miles in 10 minutes and 6 seconds.

I guess it's been a recovery week for me so I can see if I can improve my time on the long run on Saturday. More long runs will be key for me in training for the marathon in December, the marathon in January, and the relay in February.

This Friday I plan on taking the night off again in preparation for a 5 AM run on Saturday so hopefully I can update this blog for all of my readers who have been bored to death by my posts with lack of maps.

I'm frustrated with runeveryday.com though, who haven't updated their site since 6/23 and hence my name isn't on the list.

Run # 115 - Recovery Run # 3

This might be considered an off week. I did the same run I've done the past two nights. I ran 19 seconds faster than the previous night and I may try to improve again tonight. My shoe came untied during the run and I had to stop after I reached the first mile to tie it but I still ended up with 1.46.

Run # 114 - Recovery Run # 2

I did the exact same run as Sunday, only this time over a minute faster.

Run # 113 - A Recovery Run

Little distance and slowness for this one.

Map and a funny story to come.

Run # 112 - The Longest Run of the streak

I woke up at 4:30 AM and started this one with Mr. Chris Stegman around 5:15.

An hour and 48 minutes later I was finished. It felt good to get back running for that long.

Map and some more of the story to be posted when I get time for all that.

Run # 111 - An "Off Day"

A simple 1.5 miles tonight at the same place I'll be in about 7 hours. My goal tomorrow is to run for 2 hours, with no real distance goal in mind. We'll see what happens. I'll keep updating maps to these posts as I can. Tonight I ran out of time to get groceries and a backpack to carry 2 liters of water.

Run # 110 - The Long Run to Lifetime

Map and story post updates to all entries tomorrow night

Run # 109 - Aimless

I ran for exactly 32 minutes tonight and I have to create the map of the run because I've never run this route before. I decided to sprint for some of it but burned out at the end. Run # 110 tomorrow and it might be in the middle of the day in the dead of the heat. We'll see how I handle that.

To Whom It May Concern

People ask me a lot about how I hold myself accountable for all of the runs. In addition to keeping this blog, I manage everything at a site called bimactive.com. Above is a screenshot showing how I record everything, and inside those links are the maps you typically see associated with a synopsis for each run. I've been a lazy blogger lately, but I plan on being a loser Friday night and updating the blog.

Check out bimactive.com though if you're a runner, biker, hiker, walker, whatever and you want to track what you do. It's pretty cool and if you have a GPS enabled cell phone or other such device, you can record whatever you do automatically.

Run 107 - A Run with Effort

I tried a lot harder tonight and ran for 20 minutes and 46 seconds.

Map and story to come.

Run 106 - The Drunk Wakial Run

These holiday weekends with friends in town who enjoy binge drinking can make things tough, but I still managed 2.18 miles, albeit drunk. It was a weird run, one during which I thought about a myriad of things I never thought I could think during the process of running, but I did. I'll chalk it up to the booze.

I'll post the map and story soon. I have a lot of catching up to do on some posts.

Run # 107 tomorrow and I'm starting to barely become proud of myself for doing this. I will have to say I love hearing the remarks from people who hear about what I'm doing and they say things like "oh..only a mile at least a day 'oh, thats not that hard...'

These people are usually mildly to severely mildly overweight.

Run # 105 - A Midday Lifetime Run

For how hot it was and the hangover I had, I was very happy with this one, especially since I started it at 1:30 in the afternoon.

Map and story to come.

Run # 104 - Improvement

I waited until near sundown today on a day where the temperature reached the mid 110's but it felt like 200 at times as I went all over town today with Tom and Jenny Darby. I felt like I was running faster than I did on Tuesday when I did the same run.

I concluded this may be due to the fact that I ate a considerable amount of food throughout the day before I ran, something I typically don't do.
That's all I have to say for now.

Run # 103 - I'm blaming the morning heat

I'm not running faster and the morning is a rough time for me. So the above run is again horrendous and things are getting worse but I feel a lot better..and thats all that really matters to me.

Run # 102 - Shame

In all honestly, I am so disappointed with my performance this morning I'm just going to post the map. I'm not going to elaborate. I'm just going to move on and look forward to doing better tomorrow. Which should be easy given several members of the elderly passed me today as I ran. Even though they were walking pretty fast, it was still upsetting to have happen.

Run # 101 - A Slow Morning Jog

I haven't run this yet but I want to predict that its going to be just under 3 miles and really slow. I don't favor morning runs, and its already 92 degrees and I just got back from "weightlifting" at Lifetime. I woke up at 6 AM today and I am just not used to that. But its my new plan so I can come home from work and just go to bed by 6:30 PM or so. It will be interesting to see how this works. I've made the turn from 100 and it feels good. I feel like I will make my goal already and I'm just under 1/3 of the way there. The next big marker for me will be December 2nd in Tucson for the marathon there. Then there is another marathon in January here in Phoenix and apparently I'm on some sort of team for a relay run at the end of February. Run # 102 tomorrow and that will actually be a challenge for me. The training schedule calls for 7 miles and I have about 3 or 4 runs that have been at least 7 miles under my belt since late last fall when I trained for the 2007 January marathon, which was a complete struggle running in 50-60 degree weather, not to mention the 29 degree weather the morning of the race.

Speaking of complete struggles, I woke up today.

Run # 100 - One Last Chance Run

To my loyal blog readers, tonight I have good news and bad news.

The good news is the streak is alive and well.

The bad news is I have a lot of work to do to update this blog with some interesting stories and maps.

So, without further ado, let me say that Run # 100 (John, don't forget the cake(s) will have the map and story posted soon.

Stay tuned....

Run # 96 - A Painfully Slow 1.36 miles

Story to come

Run # 95 - The Quietdrive Run

Tonight I went to see Quietdrive play and then proceed to drink with Kevin and Matt.

Therefore this run was a little hazy but I felt I did well. I ran to all QD songs. Here was the setlist: 1. The Season 2. Both Ways 3. Get Up 4. Rush Together 5. Rise From The Ashes.
Good luck to Matt, Kevin, and Justin who have to fly to Atlantic City tonight to play an acoustic show on a Riverboat.
I'll be sure to check out The Almost and Meg&Dia per Kevin's request.

Run # 94 - Running Scared

On tonight's run I felt compelled to run like someone was chasing me.... with a knife. As it turns out, I ran like that was someone with severe arthritis in both knees rather than what I had envisioned to be a crazed person on stimulants with murderous intentions. But I can't ever really worry about how fast I run, because my goal here is to just do it every damn day.

This was a tough run because I was so tired even before I started it. I slept from about 9 pm to 11 pm, and seriously again pondered ending the streak and just continuing to sleep. My alarm kept going off and I used The Format's tune 'Swans' to get off my ass (my father did give me features that I didn't want by the way).

For the first time ever, I fell asleep at my desk at work today. I'd like to say this was probably due to long hours of overtime at work due to a record-setting sales month. To be honest, I'd probably have to say this was due to narcotics.

My friend's band is in town tomorrow to play a concert at the Clubhouse in Tempe, a place I used to live right next to when I first moved to AZ in 2002. What's interesting about this is when I first moved there, my neighbors told me a drive-by shooting had occurred just days earlier. And then this recently happened there in July: Clubhouse Shooting.
So I'll probably have to get my ass out of bed early in the morning to run # 95 tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Run # 93 - The John and Shivani Run

I listened to Pearl Jam (John and Shivani's favorite band) the whole run.
Here was the playlist:
1. Daughter
2. Nothingman
3.Wishlist
4. Better Man
5. Black
I have to say that as I neared the end of the run and Black was reaching the end I really felt like I could sprint easier as Vedder belted out "I know someday you'll have a beautiful life..I know you'll be a star..in somebody else's sky, but why, why, why can't it be, why can't it be miiiiiiiiiiiiine? "
It was the perfect ending to an otherwise pathetic run. I could only manage 8.5 minute miles but I did feel pretty good afterwards.
John, you now owe me 2 sheet cakes once I reach 100 a week from today.

Run # 92 - A Sweltering Return

I returned to Phoenix on Sunday night and managed a 2.18 mile run. My shirt was as soaked as a wet bed when I finished and it oddly reminded me of my attempt to party responsibly in Denver. I have to give myself credit though because I pulled this off not only after a bumpy ride back to Phoenix but after eating a Chipotle burrito in 3 minutes flat and half of a pizza later on. I fell asleep from about 10:15 - 10:30 pm but pulled it together to start the run at 10:39 pm. Once again cutting it close, but nevertheless keeping the streak alive. It will be # 93 tonight and I must say thanks to John's friend Shivani who said I would only make it 3 months, to which John replied "And I'm giving you less than that."

Tonight will be entitled 'The John and Shivani Run' as my way of saying thanks for the inspiration..not to mention the faith in me.

Run # 91 - The Denver Poley Run

(Pictured above is Poley hours after this run...you can tell this run restored his focus)

The day after a "bobblehead Chris" night I vowed to continue the streak by running the Cherry Creek again with my good friend Erich Michael Poley. Hence the name The Denver Poley run.

I decided to start out nice and slow. Poley didn't. He ran fast out of the gate because he always wants me to realize he's better than me at everything. I ran with an iPod and he didn't so I couldn't really be a dick and jack up my music. Therefore I had to listen to myself breathe like a fat kid.

We both felt the effects of massive drinking the night before. I had mildly recovered with a nap and a couple Bloody Mary's but was pretty dehydrated. We stopped after about 15 minutes and decided to sprint some and jog more on the way back. We also pussed out and walked for a bit but we still negative split the run even though we ended it a little early.

All in all, it was nice to run in that altitude s and I really didn't feel the effects like I thought I would. It rained a bit and it was cooler than Phoenix so I was happy.

Run # 90 - Denver Run # 1

The altitude in Denver didn't seem to affect me. I ran this one with my friend Derek and we ran along what is known as the Cherry Creek. I wasn't sure how to map it because Google didn't show the creek so I guess we didn't about 8 minute miles because it wasn't too long of a run and I felt like we were going pretty fast. I really enjoyed the cool breeze and lack of heat. We also did a stair workout after this one so I felt great. Run # 91 tomorrow and I would like to run the creek again to my favorite Denver destination, the Cherry Creek Mall.

Run # 89 - A Morning Slow, but Faster Jog

Before heading to Denver, I got my ass out of bed early before work and did this run. It was about 1.4 miles and was the same as Tuesday's run without the intentional slowness so my time improved considerably. Run # 90 today in Denver. Let's see how the elevation affects me....

Run # 88 - An Untimely Injury

Run # 88, on 8/15 was supposed to be at least an hour run. But an untimely internal injury dashed all hopes of that, and enabled me to continue my weak weeklong streak of just over 1 mile runs. It was a slow run with Chuck and I'm amazed I made it as far as I did. I was in a lot of pain and still am. Run # 89 is tomorrow morning and we'll see if I'm still affected. Next week I hope I'm back to normal and I sure hope I can get on the marathon training schedule. In past marathons I've sort of winged it, but this upcoming one is one where my goal is to break 4 hours, and I highly doubt I'll do it unless I step up my training, as well as my diet which could be the cause of these untimely injuries.....

Run # 87 - Intentionally Slow

Run # 87 on Tuesday, 8/14 was one I decided to do intentionally slow. I wanted to do a total of 16 minutes as slow as possible. Instead I ran 9 minutes to a street not that far from Hoh, and then I ran 7:57 or so back.

It was only 1.4 miles but it was enough to keep the streak alive and pretty much all I had in the tank in a week that has been the lowest mileage so far. It's pretty sad too, considering that marathon training has started and my goal for this week was 30 miles...run # 88 tomorrow.

Run # 86 - My attempt at a sprint

This was my attempt at sprinting 1.09 miles during 102 degree heat at 9 pm in mid-August in AZ. I've eaten very little today and am somewhat dehydrated so I guess I'm proud of this time. I'm going to try to lift weights and run at least 6 miles tomorrow. Running clears my mind and is quite therapeutic. Sometimes I fail to realize that but I always feel good after a run, even if its this short.

Run # 85 - Slogging Along

After a rough weekend, this was a tough run but I managed it. My plan is to sprint half of it tomorrow and see if I can beat my time at the halfway point of 9.02. Run # 86 will be the shortest run ever during this streak. Since its so hot now in AZ, I don't feel bad about it at all.

Run # 84 - Wow Did I Fuck That Up Run

Friday night was nothing short of a debacle and that made this Saturday's run pretty tough. I may or may not write more later, but if I can offer one phrase about my weekend, its that I would have enjoyed running 100 miles non-stop more than I enjoyed the aftermath of Friday night and sleeping on my front step for 4 hours. WOW.

Run # 83 - My Shoulder Hurts

While running this AM I noticed an unusual amount of right shoulder pain. So now I need to find out why. A long 11 miles either tomorrow (Run # 84) or Sunday (Run # 85).

Run # 82 - Please Catch Troy

I needed at least 5 miles tonight and I went above and behind and was able to get back under 9 minute miles. Now I just need Troy Williamson to do the same for the Vikings this year. Run # 83 tomorrow.

Wednesday, August 8, 2007

Run # 81 - The AC Run

I thought about the former great Vikings wide receiver nicknamed AC during this run a few times, solely named after him because he was number 81. It was a good run and I feel great right now. I'm at 7.5 miles for the week for the marathon training and I'm supposed to finish the week with 30. I have to do 11 on Saturday so that means I have to do 11.5 total for Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. A bit off schedule but I should do at least 5 tomorrow for run # 82, which will be called the Troy Williamson Please Catch the Ball and Run Run (because he can't right now although he does in the picture again JohnnyKnowsBlogs second favorite NFL team, the Redskins.

Tuesday, August 7, 2007

Run # 80 - Continuing to slow down

I guess it might be a good thing with several weekends of longer mile runs ahead of me... Run #81, dedicated to the former Vikings' great wide receiver, Anthony Carter, is tomorrow.

Monday, August 6, 2007

Run # 79 - Barely

I started and finished this run and I was so tired throughout I have no idea how I finished. I also was almost hit by a car. Run # 80 tomorrow.

Run # 78 - Recovery Hoh

Supposed to do a 5 mile pace run tonight but I'm really not selfish enough to stick to this marathon training program to a T. I had to talk to an important person at length tonight and I didn't have the time to do the 5 miler so I'll have to make it up later this week.

I am definitely happy I just did 2.25 miles tonight even though it was slower. My legs are feeling the 9.3 miler, the last part where I almost made it all the way up A Mountain, and then working out later at Lifetime and running .7 miles on a treadmill there.

Tomorrow's schedule for the marathon training calls for "cross-training." My plans are going to the dentist, to get a drink, and then to run probably two miles max. Closing in on 100 consecutive days of running....

Saturday, August 4, 2007

Run # 77 - A Terrible Performance

I'm absolutely digusted with myself with this run. It was humid sure, but thats no excuse. I ran 10:25 minute miles and was supposed to get to 10 miles today but fell .7 miles short.

I just didn't have it today.

All I know is I have a lot of work to do to get better because this was a miserable performance. My goal is under a 4 hour marathon but I need to get better with distance running because apparently I've lost even the ability to run a 4:27 marathon or 4:19 marathon like the last two I've completed.

Run # 78 is scheduled to be a 5 mile pace run, which I think means I need to run 5 miles at my desired marathon pace. So 45 minutes is all tomorrow, which will seem easy and short compared to today....I hope.

Friday, August 3, 2007

Run # 76 - Another "Off" Day

According to my marathon training schedule - the Intermediate II version in Hal Higdon's book "Marathon," - I'm supposed to use today to rest.

The streak won't allow for that so I made it an easy run tonight.

1.76 miles on the eve of my first early morning 10 mile run since January. Tucson, here I come.

Run # 75 - An Intentionally Slow Run

To kickoff the marathon training, Chuck and I ran together and we intentionally aimed to run slow. For the first time in a long time, I ran over 10 minute miles. I felt pretty tired after I made the turn at the half way point. The first long run on Saturday will be 10 miles and if I can do 9 minute miles the whole way, I'll be impressed with myself after tonights performance.
