Run # 133 - 2 Hours Through the Neighborhood and Hills

The first hour of this one was quite familiar. It started in South Mountain park and we ran down a hill to 48th St. I ran part of the 'Across Elliot' run on this leg, and then the Hoh run. After that, we turned around at Warner and ran down 51st to do half of the Toniko Run. Once we got back to South Mountain, there were some grueling hills to me, especially considering I rarely do hills. Hills are good though, but when I almost fell off of one to my death after tripping, I stopped and turned around. Overall, it was a two hour run that felt great, but we'll see how my legs feel tomorrow after all the foreign terrain I covered.

Run # 129 - The Hoh Record Run that Wasn't

My goal for run # 129 on Tuesday night was to run the Hoh run in the fastest time ever. I set the record on July 4th and tonight I felt great.

Then I went out and posted a 20 minute run. Unacceptable. I tried sprinting and I felt like I was running in slow motion.

But there is always tomorrow and # 130. No idea what I'll end up doing but the schedule calls for 9 miles. I don't think I have the energy for that today. I already flipped a coin - heads to run to the gym, tails to skip the gym. It was tails.

Run # 128 - The Mute Girl Run

Tonight's run was nothing spectacular and I always try to make these posts somewhat interesting regardless of the fact that I continue to just briefly describe each run.

However it always helps when some unusual event occurs when I'm out there. In the past I've encountered angry cops, suffered internal injuries, lapped the elderly, and have seen people who resemble serial killers. Another time, long ago before the streak began, someone slowed down to yell "yeah run you little bitch" at me. Not too long before that, someone threw a cigarette butt at me and there have been countless times that people have honked their car horns loudly in successful attempts to see me jump in place.

Tonight was just another odd encounter. I was running along 48th St. when a car slowed down and stopped just ahead of me to my left. I saw the window being rolled down so I prepared myself for something to be yelled at or thrown at me. The car appeared to be quite ghetto so, using the process of stereotyping, I also concluded I could be shot at. I sped up and prepared for the worst, looked to my left when I met the car, and saw the driver was the only one in it.

While she was probably actually talking, I'd like to live the rest of my life believing she was a mute, and was attempting to yell something at me with all of her might, failing for two main reasons:

1. The fact that she was a mute

and/or

2. The fact that I had headphones on and turned up full blast, rendering her words worthless to me.

Hence, the title of this run.

Run # 129 tomorrow.

Run # 127 - The New Shortest Run of the Streak

1.15 miles on a cooler Sunday night. I ran in a baseball hat and long pants. My shoe came untied but I didn't bother to stop to tie it.

The beauty of the streak is that all I have to do is a mile per day but yet I can do 17 - 20 miles on other days if I mentally prepare myself to suffer.

Finally, I've been added to the active list at runeveryday.com - I'm # 185

Run # 126 - The New Longest Run of the Streak

A 17 mile journey through Tempe and into Phoenix and although I felt great after the run, I had to get 2nd, 3rd, and 4th winds to make it through.

I haven't run that far since January and it was arduous. I made a rare stop along the way to refill my water bottle.

As I write this, my feet are in a lot of pain and I am on the verge of tears. I don't feel like moving but I am forcing myself to get up and go drink alcohol tonight to reward myself for all of my hard work.

Maybe that will ease my pain.

Run # 125 - The Second Downtown Run

One of my earliest runs during the streak was one right outside of where I work after I got done working. It was May then and I ran at 5:30 pm or so. It was brutal.

Tonight I did it again only this time the heat wasn't a factor. It was actually kind of cool, right around 95 degrees or so. I passed a few homeless people, ran through some construction zones, but didn't have a near death experience like last time where I was inches away from being destroyed by a bus.

Run # 124 - A Rare Morning Short Run

I took my time with this one, running only 1.46 miles in 12:54.

It felt good but then I realized I'd spend the rest of the day working.

That's when I started to feel bad.

Run # 123 - The Non 8 mile run

Tonight I had big glorious plans to run 8 miles. The first weekday 8 mile run in months. But my lazy ass got the best of me and I only managed 2.7. It was the same run I did when I started the streak. I call it the classic run on bimactive.com. I tried to sprint portions of this one and it appears that, as a result, I ran faster. That felt pretty good. I told my physical therapist that my right foot hurts and it doesn't seem to be getting better. His advice was to "stop fucking running."

Run # 122 - The Smashing Pumpkins run

Titled only as such because I went to a Smashing Pumpkins show after it (it was subpar), this run was surprisingly cool as temperatures in Phoenix got down to the 70's for the first time since June 8th.

I only ran 1.66 miles but I proudly included a hill in the run and it felt like nothing after the 12 miles I ran on Saturday. Its still hard to think I'll add 2.5 hours and 15.5 miles to this coming Saturday's run, but it just goes to show you the mental preparation running takes.

That, and in my case, a lot of mental disability.

Run # 121 - A Wakial Run

This 2.18 mile run brought be to 3.8 for the week. With 17 planned for Saturday, this could my most miles in one week so far during the streak.

Run # 120 - Slow

I ran slow on the night of a day that was nauseating at best. The weekend in general made me think about a lot of things, ranging from where I want to live to if I want to live. But the weekend is over now, and I get to start this next day with the ultimate aphrodisiac: a day at work. The relief has now washed over me in an awesome wave.

Run # 119 - The Weekend Long Run

Ran for 1 hour and 58 minutes today.

The map will be posted but its going to be tough to figure out the route I took.

I ran with a few other people who are "Ironmen" - I firmly believe one didn't take a breath during the entire run. He's done a 135 mile run before in the past so today was more like a stretching exercise for him.

I didn't feel as well as I thought I would for this run, especially during the outset but I could definitely tell my legs benefited from the rest I gave them this week.

Run # 118 - RR # 6

So six days in a row of the same recovery run of 1.46 miles.

Definitely an off week for me.

I have to get up in about 5 hours for a 2 hour run so we'll see how the rest on my legs pays off. Tomorrow's run should be about 13 miles or so I hope.

Here's the final breakout. I started out slow, got faster, and then finished slower to end the week:

Sunday - 1.46 miles in 12 minutes and 51 seconds

Monday - 1.46 miles in 11 minutes and 23 seconds

Tuesday - 1.46 miles in 11 minutes and 4 seconds

Wednesday - 1.46 miles in 10 minutes and 6 seconds.

Thursday - 1.46 miles in 12 minutes and 4 seconds

Friday - 1.46 miles in 12 minutes and 17 seconds

Run # 117 - RR # 5

Ran the same 1.46 tonight. I didn't have as much energy as the past few nights so I ran closer to my time on Sunday.

Run # 116 - Recovery Run # 4

This week I've done the same run on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and now Wednesday. As I've gone along, I've tried to do more short sprints in each with an ultimate goal of sprinting the entire way someday to my death.

Here are the distances and times for each day:

Sunday - 1.46 miles in 12 minutes and 51 seconds

Monday - 1.46 miles in 11 minutes and 23 seconds

Tuesday - 1.46 miles in 11 minutes and 4 seconds

Wednesday - 1.46 miles in 10 minutes and 6 seconds.

I guess it's been a recovery week for me so I can see if I can improve my time on the long run on Saturday. More long runs will be key for me in training for the marathon in December, the marathon in January, and the relay in February.

This Friday I plan on taking the night off again in preparation for a 5 AM run on Saturday so hopefully I can update this blog for all of my readers who have been bored to death by my posts with lack of maps.

I'm frustrated with runeveryday.com though, who haven't updated their site since 6/23 and hence my name isn't on the list.

Run # 115 - Recovery Run # 3

This might be considered an off week. I did the same run I've done the past two nights. I ran 19 seconds faster than the previous night and I may try to improve again tonight. My shoe came untied during the run and I had to stop after I reached the first mile to tie it but I still ended up with 1.46.

Run # 114 - Recovery Run # 2

I did the exact same run as Sunday, only this time over a minute faster.

Run # 113 - A Recovery Run

Little distance and slowness for this one.

Map and a funny story to come.

Run # 112 - The Longest Run of the streak

I woke up at 4:30 AM and started this one with Mr. Chris Stegman around 5:15.

An hour and 48 minutes later I was finished. It felt good to get back running for that long.

Map and some more of the story to be posted when I get time for all that.

Run # 111 - An "Off Day"

A simple 1.5 miles tonight at the same place I'll be in about 7 hours. My goal tomorrow is to run for 2 hours, with no real distance goal in mind. We'll see what happens. I'll keep updating maps to these posts as I can. Tonight I ran out of time to get groceries and a backpack to carry 2 liters of water.

Run # 110 - The Long Run to Lifetime

Map and story post updates to all entries tomorrow night

Run # 109 - Aimless

I ran for exactly 32 minutes tonight and I have to create the map of the run because I've never run this route before. I decided to sprint for some of it but burned out at the end. Run # 110 tomorrow and it might be in the middle of the day in the dead of the heat. We'll see how I handle that.

To Whom It May Concern

People ask me a lot about how I hold myself accountable for all of the runs. In addition to keeping this blog, I manage everything at a site called bimactive.com. Above is a screenshot showing how I record everything, and inside those links are the maps you typically see associated with a synopsis for each run. I've been a lazy blogger lately, but I plan on being a loser Friday night and updating the blog.

Check out bimactive.com though if you're a runner, biker, hiker, walker, whatever and you want to track what you do. It's pretty cool and if you have a GPS enabled cell phone or other such device, you can record whatever you do automatically.

Run 107 - A Run with Effort

I tried a lot harder tonight and ran for 20 minutes and 46 seconds.

Map and story to come.

Run 106 - The Drunk Wakial Run

These holiday weekends with friends in town who enjoy binge drinking can make things tough, but I still managed 2.18 miles, albeit drunk. It was a weird run, one during which I thought about a myriad of things I never thought I could think during the process of running, but I did. I'll chalk it up to the booze.

I'll post the map and story soon. I have a lot of catching up to do on some posts.

Run # 107 tomorrow and I'm starting to barely become proud of myself for doing this. I will have to say I love hearing the remarks from people who hear about what I'm doing and they say things like "oh..only a mile at least a day 'oh, thats not that hard...'

These people are usually mildly to severely mildly overweight.

Run # 105 - A Midday Lifetime Run

For how hot it was and the hangover I had, I was very happy with this one, especially since I started it at 1:30 in the afternoon.

Map and story to come.
